Several cards in the Home stack contain lists of pathnames where HyperCard should look for stacks, applications, and documents.  For example, the pathname

:HyperCard Stacks:

tells HyperCard to look for a folder named "HyperCard stacks" at the disk level.   Colons separate levels in a pathname.  If you had a stack in a folder named "old 
stacks" within HyperCard Stacks, you would add a new line with this pathname:
